Regional District of Nanaimo
The
Regional District of Nanaimo (District #69) is one of the fastest growing
regions in British Columbia, Canada. Located on Vancouver Island, it
has a population of more than 131,000 people, and some of the Island's
most
livable communities. Its boundaries stretch from Cassidy—just south
of the Nanaimo airport—to Deep Bay in the north, and inland to
snow-capped Mount Arrowsmith. District #69 also includes adjacent islands,
many of
which house active communities.
The six provincial parks within the area sport beautiful natural attractions
that provide extensive opportunities for outdoor recreation. Fishing can
be enjoyed year round: salmon, trout, and bass in the summer; and in the
winter, steelhead. Fresh and salt-water fishing offers anglers many great
locations to test their skills. Charter and marina facilities are readily
available. And within the Region are six challenging golf courses that
offer breathtaking views of ocean and mountain.
The comparatively mild climate enjoyed by the folks of District 69, combined
with generous municipal recreational facilities, encourages participation
in a wide variety of physical activities: baseball, boating, caving, canoeing,
curling, diving, fishing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, lawn
bowling, skating, skiing, swimming, tennis, and windsurfing.
Other amenities include highly respected public schools as well as the
Malaspina University-College at Nanaimo, with a branch in Parksville. Medical
clinics, ambulance service, airport, and regular ferry service all contribute
to making District 69 the preferred place to live.
